A key pillar of Ifraj Foundation’s WASH Programme is the public toilet programme. This effort aims to  provide impacted communities access to clean and accessible toilets within and around Pemba Island. To this day, women and children resort to unsanitary options to maintain their dignity. At their request, Ifraj Foundation is working to build community washrooms enabled with four latrines, one W/C for the differently abled, and one shower. 

Each public toilet costs 4,436 USD to build, ranging between 6-8 weeks of construction time. The benefit of the public toilet is its wide accessibility, and sanitary amenities. Each public toilet is accessible to 50 homes, reaching around 300 people per community. 

Water tanks serve as core reserves for communities that are considered water-poor. Ifraj follows standard practice of installing water tanks as back-up storage whenever a water well or water pipes are installed, to ensure communities do not run out of water supply. For each 5,000 lt. of water, it costs about 500 USD. Ifraj often installs between 2 or 4 tanks, dependent on the size of the community which it serves.

Ifraj Foundation works with ZAWA (the local water authority) to install water pipes to promote safe and equitable access to clean water. The pipes are often an extension of existing water wells, and are connected to water tanks. Treated water then flows to communities in need.
